MLB Signs Deal With FanDuel to Become Co-Exclusive US Sportsbook Partner

In an effort to prevent corruption, the major US sports leagues have embraced official betting. They have a variety of different rules in place to protect the integrity of their games and betting. Some states have passed legislation allowing players to bet on their own team while others have set minimum and maximum wager limits.

MLB has signed a deal with US gambling firm FanDuel to become its co-exclusive official sportsbook partner in a multi-year pact. The deal builds on FanDuel’s existing portfolio of US sports sponsorship deals, including partnerships with the NFL, NBA, NHL and WTA.

For pre-live bets on Total Bases Props, a batter is only credited for a total bases hit (hitting a single (1 base), double (2 bases), triple (3 bases), or home run (4 bases)) when that batsman’s plate appearance in the designated game is complete at the end of the scheduled inning. Live Total Bases Props settle using an 8.5 innings rule.

Any baseball player, umpire or club or league official or employee who accepts a bet on a game in which they have a duty to perform is in violation of MLB’s code of conduct and may be permanently banned from the sport. They are also permanently barred from entering the Baseball Hall of Fame.

A permit holder may offset loss and manage risk by placing bets on professional sports events outside of Virginia with the permission of the Director. However, a permit holder must make the necessary arrangements for the transmission of tier 2 bets on those events through official data sources within 120 days after the date on which the Director determines that a sports governing body does not desire to supply permit holders with a feed of official league data on commercially reasonable terms.
