Recently published in Taschen

I just got the news that some of my work will be published in the up and coming Taschen series of “Web Design: Navigation”.

There will be three featured projects: Mia Sable, Drop Dead Gorgeous and Thalia. The book comes out in about a week. I’m super stoked! If you’re not familiar with this Taschen series you really should check it out. The overall layouts are packed with amazing examples and are easy to thumb through for quick inspiration.

Gearing up for a fun wallpaper…

I’m currently putting together a collection of random items in an attempt at making a desktop wallpaper for my own exploration. The plan is to construct a physical composition first and then later bring it into photoshop. I’ve seen attempts at this technique in the past but, none as unique and fresh as Serial Cut’s work for example. At first glance it might look like his work has been produced entirely in photoshop, but that’s not the case. Check it out!

I also added two tracks from Tennis Hero since I’ve always dug their album art and especially their music.

Enjoy!

Talkdemonic

Talkdemonic is a two-member self-labeled folktronic hop band based in Portland, Oregon. It’s pretty safe to assume that I’m an instant fan of any genre with the word “tronic / tronica” added to it. A truly unique sound and act.

Enjoy!

Jeffdoe Drum n’ Bass Mix - 2003

I decided to post a classic mix from my Drum n’ Bass hayday. As of the past 2 years or so I have really gotten back into it. I’ll be mixing some new stuff come early spring once I get my hands on Serato. The mix posted here is full of liquid rollers and soulful vocal tracks. Lots of tracks entitled with the word “love”.

The image posted above is of a handful of flyers/posters I did during that era 2000-2003 for artists such as Klute, UFO!, Hive, Silver, Planet of the Drums, Gridlok, Sage and R.A.W. Check out this older post of some of my early inspiration.

Enjoy!

Tracklisting:

1. Sonic & Silver (?) Sci002
2. Klute - Part of Me (vocal side)
3. Carlito - Feel my love
4. Syntax - Love on Love
5. Funk n’ Flex - Feel the Love
6. Bebel Gilberto - So Nice
7. Funk n’ Flex - Flow with Me
8. Mathmatics - Second Chance
9. Young Ax - Alone
10. Mathmatics - Jersey Deep
11. Mathmatics -Fantasy
12. Blue Sonix - This Feeling
13. John B - Up All Night
14. AK 1200 - Carousel
15. Jonny L -Phreak

Elf from Arm

I recently commented on a song by “Elf from Arm - Windstar” posted over at the blog of all blogs, iso50.com and later received a kind email from band member Kendall. He hooked me up with the full album and it’s awesome! “Windstar” is a stand out track that really takes off around the middle (3:25). It makes me look forward to spring!

Thanks again Kendall, I really appreciate it!

Little Airplane & Jennifer Oxley

This post is geared toward us designers with kids.

When I’m not at work I’m spending time with my wife and our 2 year old son Jackson. Jackson loves to get ready for a nap by watching the children’s network called “Noggin“. If you have a young toddler then you’ll understand how the Noggin Network is truly a saving grace when it comes to parenting. Jackson currently loves the show “The Wonder Pet’s“, which is a super clever and witty children’s program consisting of “photo-puppetry animation”. I’m really a big fan of this style and could definitely see myself doing such work. Anyhow, I’d decided to peek around to see whom it can be credited to.

I was led to find a small studio doing enormous things; Little Airplane (make sure you check out their video).

Little Airplane employees roughly 77 people and has an office in New York’s historic South Street Seaport and a new UK office in the Butler’s Wharf district of London. The office and vibe looks amazing! They also offer studio tours for kids! I would totally take Jackson there!

Little Airplane’s Creative Director Jennifer Oxley has worked in the film and television industry for the past ten years as a Director and Animator. If you watch kids’ TV, you’ve surely seen her work. Jennifer is the recipient of an Emmy Award and a Humanitas Prize for her role as Director on Nick Jr.’s “Little Bill.” Jennifer has directed eight short films for “Sesame Street,” as well as the award-winning adaptation of Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee’s children’s book, “Please, Baby, Please” for Nick Jr. Her films have been featured at festivals such as the Annecy International Animation Festival and the Ottawa International Animation Festival. At Little Airplane, Jennifer has directed “The Wonder Pets!” for Nick Jr. and “Go, Baby!” for Playhouse Disney. She also served as the Creative Director for “Piper O’Possum” and “Go, Baby!” She is currently the Creative Director of “The Wonder Pets!” and “3rd and Bird”.

Interviewed on “SWD”

Luc Arnold over at SWD interviewed me over the weekend and just recently posted it on his site. It’s basically a wrap up of how I first got into design, who has inspired me and what challenges I’ve come across during my career. It was super fun!

Thanks again for the opportunity Luc! It was a pleasure!
