Bones Brigade

bones_brigade_jeffdoe

I grew up in the suburbs. In a cultasac that was filled with 80’s skate rats whom aspired to be in the “Bones Brigade”. We rocked the rat tails, Vision Street Wear, launch ramps and ghetto blasters. I still vividly remember my dad buying me my first legit complete at age 8 or so. It was a Lance Mountain Mini with white Cross Bone wheels, black/green Tracker trucks, clear grip tape and blue rails.

I still skate every chance I get and hope to continue as long as my body can take it, or at the very least till my 2 year old son catches on. He’s getting there…

It’s always fun to look back at all the ground breaking skate vid’s of the 80’s that really summed up what skateboarding was all about: your friends, vibes, music, expression and just simply having fun exploring the streets. Here’s a few of my old decks and some of my most memorable skate vid’s. I’m sure you’ll be taken back in time as well.

Enjoy!

Nike AM’s Go to Europe

Ok I don’t ever remember AM’s being this good back in the day. It’s amazing the progression of talent these days. Anyhow, there are two amazing things going on in this video, one being Helsinki skatepark and the other, Grant Taylor. Grant’s style is untouchable and completely effortless. I’d love to see a video with just him and Chris Senn. Those two skate as if they are in a dream. Also, if you never heard of Helsinki skatepark take a peek. It’s like no other skatepark on earth. It was designed by Janne Sarrio, but looks like it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It’s totally in harmony with nature as well as the construction materials used. Pure Modernism.

Someone pinch me!

It’s finally here. My site that is! I’ve been trying to find the time to launch a site for nearly 4 years now. After all the different concepts and designs I had scrapped, I ultimately ended up with customized Wordpress. This solution was great because it really forced me to strengthen my CSS, javascript and simple PHP skills. By no means would I ever think of myself as a developer, but it was fun to pretend during this process. Anyhow, I’ll be updating the blog daily with music, design, skate and all types of other material as well as some last minute projects, but enough is enough, I forced myself to launch this sucker, so enjoy and thank you for stopping by. Don’t be a stranger and feel free to say hello if you like, it’s nice to make new friends.

Skate & Create

Transworld had a competition called Skate & Create and invited DVS, Emerica, Osiris to have five team riders spend 9 days in a secret warehouse skating and creating. Though it was a coined a “competition” it ultimately looks like it ended up as an expression session. Does it get any better than skating in a real life art piece?
